2017 was quite a year for Make I.T. SOAR! It was filled with welcomed change, an abundance of growth & learning, and well-earned recognition. We dipped our toes in the massive pool of cyber security & honed and perfected our skills in Web Design, picking up a few certifications along the way. Here’s a brief recap of our second year in operation.
In April, Make I.T. SOAR was featured in a WBAY news segment. This was a wonderful moment for us, as it helped inform the community of our mission, as well as gave two of our team members the opportunity to speak about their experiences here.
In May, we received the Company Innovation Award for Small Employer from the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce – an award that we were very humbled and honored to receive. It is given to organizations that identify opportunities and execute creative-thinking and calculated risk-taking to bring innovation to the marketplace. Also in May, we welcomed Julie Biesterveld, an Autism Specialist, to the team.
Thanks to an incredibly generous donation, we upgraded our office furniture in July, bringing a whole new atmosphere to our daily work lives.
Quite possibly my favorite event of our year took place in August, when two of our team members got married! It’s been a beautiful sight watching them grow together, and they now have a fur-son — our office mascot, Oatis.
Beginning in September and into October, we spent a lot of time and energy giving our building a new look. We painted both the outside and the inside, as well as getting new flooring in one of the bathrooms, and wall decor throughout the office. Again, this couldn’t have been done without the generosity of some wonderful people!
In November, we hosted our first Open House event, which was a huge success! Many community members came to show their support, we had enough food to feed an army, and the silent auction set-up was perfect.
Finally, in December our Autism Specialist had a vendor booth at the Milwaukee Autism & Asperger’s Conference, where she was lucky enough to meet Dr. Temple Grandin, world-renowned autism spokesperson and best-selling author!
Overall, the last year was an important one for Make I.T. SOAR, as a business. Every member of our team stepped up to the plate to learn new skills which will help further our growth. We have a long way to go before we are able to serve our community as fully as we would like to, but for now, we will continue forward on our path with the support and guidance of SOAR Fox Cities, our Board of Directors, and our surrounding community.
A special “Thank You” goes out from the bottom of our hearts to the following people and organizations for their support in 2017. We wouldn’t be where we are right now without your help!
